My Mum Crossed Over

My Mum crossed over 10 February 2013.  "Failure to Thrive"  I've heard of that in babies but never for a 78 (she just had a birthday in January) year old grown woman.

Anyway, the Pixie and I drove up there late in January.  I visited her in the Nursing Home a few times and Pixie came once.  I didn't want to have Pixie remember her that way but I did want her to have the opportunity to say the I Love You and such things to her Gma and for Gma to hear them.

I did not visit as much as I should have.  Mum did not recognize me when I walked into her room and it took several attempts with me telling her that I am her daughter (and saying my name) before she was able to grasp that it was really me.  She apologized for that [silly woman] and I explained to her that I was not offended and that she wasn't expecting me so her confusion was perfectly understandable.  We talked a bit that day.  Me telling her that when she is strong enough she's going to come visit with us (come to live with us but not phrasing it that way so as to not stress her out about it).  On that visit she asked if my Pixie was with me and I told her yes, but not at the facility.  She was glad of that (didn't want Pixie to see her like this) and told me that she had seen Pixie playing in the snow and wanted to know if that was real.  I told her that Pixie had been playing in the snow and had a wonderful time building a little snow fort.

The days that I did not visit I did call.

After that first visit I was never again able to hear what she was saying.  On my last "in person" visit she said only two things that I was able to understand "I don't know him" and "I can see him ... but I can't touch..."  I'm assuming she was referring to God.  Mind you she was the most spiritual [Christian] that I have ever known (I truly believe the woman is a saint and have said it regularly for most of my life "My Mother the Saint").  I cannot believe that she should have had any fear about meeting her maker with how religious she was.  Though I sincerely hope that her God, my Father/her Husband, her Parents and everybody else who has gone on before had a talk with her about the choices she made toward the end and/or perhaps rather the lack of choices she made.

I could not sit by her bed holding her hand and watching her kill herself.  I simply could not.  I suppose that means I'm awful.  I know I "should" have been by her side night and day until she passed.  I simply could not do it.  On my last in person visit I told her I love her, I told her she could go, it is okay for her to go.  I told her we would miss her and that although I didn't understand the choices I respect her decisions.  She was talking the whole time.  I couldn't hear her, neither could the Nurses.  I finally gave up trying to hear her and said "I hope you're praying because if you're talking to me I cannot hear you, I'm sorry."

You see she refused tests, she stopped taking medications she needed, she refused treatments (I'm saying that her "I'll think about it" qualifies as "refusal").  This started about September 2011 actually before that but I was not acutely aware of what was going on with her.  At that time the three different medical facilities wanted to do tests to determine what was going on. For almost a year and a half she "thought about it" but never had an answer as to what she had decided after all that "thinking".  "Not making a choice IS a choice" I kept telling her for a year and a half.

Her passive-aggressive nature killed her.

She was had gotten better, gotten up to her normal weight, doing well in her Physical and Occupational therapies. We were all set to go get her.  Her room was nearly ready, Hubby was going to take care of the last bits after we found out if she needed a hospital type bed or if a regular bed would be okay...

She was bleeding internally and because she refused tests and treatments for that condition she declined again.  I still believe that if she had simply had the tests and had the appropriate treatments for what the results revealed that she would be alive today.  Happy, healthy and enjoying her life.  They were sending her out from time to time for blood transfusion and then she started the "I'll think about it." for the transfusions.  She never had another one.  She refused to go to hospital where she could have been treated medically for the dehydration, anemia, etc.  She was on Oxygen 24/7 the last few weeks (she would only use it part time prior to that despite the Doctor's instruction for her to use it all the time).  She had "End Stage COPD" and stopped using her inhalers but did (toward the end) have her nebulizer treatments but that was only because she was desperate to breath.  At least she did that.

She stopped eating.  I simply do not understand how such a religious woman could choose to commit suicide by passivity.  Hubby said, and I must agree, that she decided that God needed to either cure her or take her.

Pixie and I ended up being at her apartment for 3 months...almost to the day.  It was very difficult.  We're not used to snow and the complications it brings.  I had to search out things [like the safe deposit box key] and make the funeral arrangements, sell her car, try to sift through belongings (I really did not succeed with that - I did managed to stack up the mountains of religious books, CDs, Audio Cassettes, DVDs and VHS Tapes.  That was quite a task.  It looked like a religious book store in there.  I don't think even a Christian bookstore would have the inventory that she had - I plan to give those to her Church when we go back up to bury her ashes).  My plan is to put my Father's ashes in the same grave with my Mum, they will be next to her parents.  My Father passed in 1987.  In all this time we have not been able to do with his ashes as he asked so this is what I have decided to do.  At least they will be together.  I hope he doesn't mind that we were unable to carry out his quirky wishes..  So that will mean getting a stone too.  I should probably arrange for that before we go back up so the stone can be placed at the same time as the ashes are interred.  When we go back we are also going to hire movers to empty the apartment and will ship the things down here to put in storage until we can get everything gone through and distributed as is appropriate.

Going through her clothes stopped me dead in my tracks.  I did well for a while, but then I just couldn't do anymore.  I was beside myself... One of Mum's neighbors and I were chatting and she mentioned that she still has some of her husbands clothes.  What is it about their clothes?  It's hard to do the clothes.  My Grandmother had the same issue after my Grandfather crossed.  She simply could not get rid of his clothes.  I thought it was silly at the time.  Now I know, it IS hard to do the clothes.

I think I'm still in shock.  Leaving there was very hard.  In some ways it cemented that she is gone.  We were supposed to bring her home with us.

It's an odd feeling to be an orphan at 53.  Yep, this has been a lot about "me".  Not as cathartic as I had hoped.

The people there spoke of her in such warm and glowing terms.  I'm glad they knew her that way.  I envy them in that.  She kept me at arms length, with us she was not the person they knew.

Perhaps that was the worst thing.  Hearing all the wonderful things people had to say about her and not knowing that woman.

Dang That Hurts!

Tonight I apparently decided that I didn't have ENOUGH pain.  I was going into the back of the Van to grab leftovers from our good-bye dinner with some friends...
Hit the little button on the key-fob and head into the back of the Van, as I am leaning down to grab the food stuff I hear the lift gate beeping (which means it's going up, or in this case ... down).  So, being the totally brilliant woman that I am I start to stand up to step out of the way.  NOT one of my proudest moments, nor one of my most intelligent...
As I came up, and the Lift Gate (is that what it's called?) came down...well, my head and the gate decided to become better acquainted.
The language I used is not fit to print here...needless to say it was colorful!
No blood, a good thing, headache (already had a budding migraine) really bad!  But, my sunglasses (which were on top of my head at the time...so they dug into my head as well) do not appear to have been damaged.  With the noise my head made when it hit I am AMAZED that the glassed did not break in half...and am even more amazed that I didn't crack open my skull.
Am going to go back to putting ice on my head (what a lovely goose-egg I have) and hopefully go to sleep soon.
This is my first moment to get on the computer, and sadly too short.

In the Good News department...they say my wound is HEALED!  I'm not completely out of the woods, I have to protect it from damage as I can split it back open (just the thinnest layer of skin), keep the swelling down so that doesn't break it open either...need to get support sox for the upcoming long drive.

HOWEVER, I am technically HEALED!!!

Now we must do the dance of joy!!!

And now I must get my ice pack again!

Sadness & Joy

My Mother-In-Law, who also happens to have been one on my very best friends for the last 25 years (only my MIL for the last 13 years - long story), passed away 29 July 2011 @ 1238pm.
We are all still in shock, even though we KNEW it was coming.  She had managed to hang on days longer than expected.  We were trying to figure out how to get there to be with her and had decided, due to financial issues, that only hubby could go.  Ultimately he is the most important one in who MIL needed to have there.
While making preparations for the trip, he was leaving in a few hours, the call came that she had crossed.
I was in the waiting room of a doctor's appointment when I got the news.  She quite literally crossed as I was leaving the house to go to my appointment.  I had called just an hour or so before I left.
I know that I can be more eloquent but it's late at night and it's been a heck of a day and the preceding weeks.
She had lived for 45 years with debilitating chronic pain, the last years it seemed as if every year she developed some new disease/disorder.  Her body was betraying her at every turn.
The joy I have is that she is now free of that.  She loves to dance and the last years she had difficulty walking...so at the moment i see her dancing.  She is in a sunny bright meadow, surrounded by butterflies, bubbles and dandelion fluff floating on gentle breezes...and she is dancing, she is laughing, she is happy and free of the burdens her health had created.
Times like this are the absolute epitome of bittersweet.
I need to try to rest.  I'm having a hard time with that since I've been calling the hospital every few hours, day and night, for the last weeks.  I keep reaching for the phone to check on her.

Darling, I love you and I miss you.
Dance, Laugh, Rejoice!

Completely Out of Left Field

I picked up a new pair of jeans the other day (they have sparkles on the pockets!) and four new casual tops. I think, on some level, I was so excited about my new teeth, and looking forward to not feeling like the poster child for backwoods lack of dental health...well so I got myself some new things to wear.

The teeth, BTW, DO look pretty...they need an adjustment here and there and also much getting used to, but I think they look wonderful. Like my teeth even, only not all icky!

I'm Hanging On

I'm about to kill somebody if I don't get a smoke...I'm counting the hours. Doc said at least 24 hours at least until after my follow up with my regular dentist tomorrow @ 11:30. I am trying everything I can think of to distract myself. I've already thanked DH for moving my cigarettes, I cannot count the number of times I would have lit up by now if they had been in their normal spot.

As far as today's oral surgery goes...18/19 teeth down, full upper and partial lower in. Obviously the more the numb goes away the more I become aware of the discomfort, the places that dig and rub and that both bloody jaws just blasted hurt...can't imagine why.

DH is floored saying that I've been doing things, putting away laundry, putting dishes in the dishwasher, little things like that...pacing because I want a cigarette so badly, trying to drink and eat, and to wrap my brain and my tongue around the new additions... He's saying that when he had his wisdom teeth pulled he was out for a couple-a-few days and obviously expected such from me. Well, SO DID I. I do NOT feel like I'm doing well or much at all.

I WANT to curl up and hide, I want to sleep until all the pain is gone and all the adjustments are made to the dentures (neat trick that would be eh?), I want to be able to speak clearly, to eat anything without playing at being a trained seal with a sardine (chin up to allow said food to slide down my throat, the same way I had to start with the water earlier today...taking meds has been a "delight").

Unfortunately, my daughter is still sick, my husband is still sick, our laundry still needs to be done, I need to pull myself together as quickly as possible, at least get to that point where i can fake it well enough to fool most of the people most of the time... What am I supposed to do? The kitchen will not clean itself, the laundry doesn't wash or fold itself...all the things that have been falling behind because of my teeth or fighting off this stupid "creeping crud 2011". Please do NOT get my wrong. Our home is a disaster. I've not had it well maintained in more years than I care to admit to. I have considered hiring an organization expert to help me out (...which really upsets me because organization IS MY THING!) I've thought about hiring a maid service to help me whip this place into shape so I can do the regular maintenance myself...do they do that sort of thing? We will ignore that we do NOT have that kind of money...I just DO have that level of frustration and desperation.

So ANYWAY...maintaining this level of chaos is not as easy as it seems either...which is evidenced by what happens every time I give in to whatever the matter may be, pain, illness, appointments, shopping...or that little Home-Schooling thing...

I think I've lost track of where I was going here....

TL:DR

And I'm not scrolling back up to see it either.

I AM hanging on...and hopefully tomorrow will be better...I'm going to try for sleep to eat up some of those non-smoking hours...

DH pampered me today, he finished making the tea I started, went out and got me pudding and yogurt and ice cream (all stuff they told me to eat at the surgeon's today) and I joked when he was on his way out to the store that cheesecake would fall into that soft smooth food category...He brought me home a cheesecake!!! OMGoodness! He made me mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner and scooped me up ice cream to help with the pain and for something easier to get down...even ice cream is tough when you're playing the trained seal.

Fun, Fun, Fun...NOT

My poor Pixie is very sick. Poor darlin' is coughing until she actually makes herself "sick". Her fever broke a few days ago but the rest of her symptoms are pretty much the same. She's had this for about a week now. Her highest temp was 102.6. She's got a lowgrade fever now, rarely breaking 100. She seems to do much better in the morning but by about 3 pm she starts coughing and not much we do seems to help. She's finally sleeping peacefully now. I haven't heard a cough in 5 or 10 minutes. YAY!

Me...I am currently terrified about tomorrow's surgery to remove my teeth. Well, I'm more terrified about the recovery...and the pain.

I am excited for my new "store bought teeth". I cannot wait to smile again. I've been so self-conscious about my teeth for so long I think sometimes that I have forgotten how to smile. And laughing...again that has been right out. I've been so embarrassed that I don't even really smile or laugh at home. I don't even want the people who love me to see me this way...don't want them to remember me this way.

That's the first thing I'm excited about with the teeth. That emotional part has been going on longer than the next part...

I am so excited about the prospect of not having the physical pain. The inability to eat. The inability to sleep. Sometimes having to prop myself up to sleep because the blood pressure change when I lay down normally causes the jaw pain to shoot up into my skull. The vise grip that attaches itself to my jaws from time to time...twisting, crushing pain that feels as if it is going to shatter the jaw...and the feeling that if the jaw did finally give way under the pressure that it would finally hurt LESS.

Amist the excitement is also a fair bit of fear...because of the bone density meds that I've been taking all these years (since the hysterectomy)...but that will have to wait for another day.

I must try to get some rest...I have a bit more laundry to fold...I'm saying to heck with the kitchen at this point...they will have to deal with it being a mess a bit longer...

Hopefully back up and running by Friday (?). Fingers Crossed.

Okay, so it doesn't really make me a bad person...does it?

Okay...so a few days ago hubby was on me about something-or-other (I honestly do not remember what about at this point) and I was listening to him going off and I had to stifle a full out laugh.  I'm hoping to everything sacred and holy that I was able to mask it with a cough.  Then when he was saying that he was really upset  about this (whatever the bickering was about) I am 100% sure I couldn't manage to keep the grin off my face or out of my voice when all I could say was "Yes, I can see that."  OMGosh, I thought I was going to fall on the floor from the effort of not laughing out loud.

Some Days You Just Want To SCREAM!

I don't know if it's days...right now it feels like weeks, months...maybe even years...
Heck, at this point I don't know if I want to scream or just cry.

My Valentine's Day Story - Flashback and all!

Okay, so this morning when I get up hubby walks into the room with a bunch of daises (artificial thank goodness) and a sheepish grin on his face.

[insert flash back squiggles here]

Back in the early 90's before DH and I got together he worked on a BBS. That BBS was one of the several places I played "Legend of the Red Dragon" (LORD). Many days a week I would log on to go campaigning and get a pop up saying that I had been killed during the night. Somebody had broken into my room, a battle ensued and I had died.

What a way to start the day! So I would, inevitably, go see who had been rude enough to killed me as I slept... Well there was a battle so I guess I woke up!

Anytime it had been the man I am now married to who had done the deed of removing me from the earthly plane there was always a little note.

"I was just trying to bring you some daises."

[insert flash forward squiggles here]

So this morning. seeing that man-o-mine standing there, looking sheepish with his hand outstretched clutching a bunch of daises I was compelled to say...

"You broke into my room and KILLED ME again!"

We both giggled and it was a lovely moment, lots of hugs and kisses!

To Heck With It!

Not really doing much of anything today.
Gave up on errands.
Dishes still waiting to be done...everything still waiting to be done.
Only managed a little scrambling for a friend.
Going to lay down and put a pillow over my head now.
I hope to be back later.

So Much for a Better Day!

I opened my eyes this morning only to discover that the majority of my field of vision has been taken over by the visual disturbances to graciously given up by my migraines.

That is getting better bit by bit, but the headache and the nausea are getting worse bit by bit.

I'm putting my plans for today on hold, except for errands that absolutely must be done.

SIGH

Where does the time go?

February already. Where did January go? I think I blinked.

I've gotten a referral to go to an Urgent Care clinic off base. That only took a week. So now I get to try to make an appointment there.
Fun, fun, fun.

Still no response from the Witness/Victim place. I've left two messages so far. I think I need to make it part of my daily routine to call until I get some sort of response.

Hubby is nearly done with his last class for his degree. WooHoo! And he's taking a week of leave. Should be fun.

I've been trying to take it easy as I seem to have run myself into the ground. I've been reading a little bit (Twilight). Got two chapters in tonite.

I've tried to journal a little, hopefully that will help too.

I've just walked out of the kitchen, dinner dishes not done. I'm just too wrung out to deal with them today. I will hassle it in the morning. GAWD I hate doing it that way. I feel so defeated when I get up to a messy kitchen. UGH. But, if I do it now I can kiss any hope of sleep goodby.

So I'm off to wrap my ankle in it's nightly ice pack and pray for sleep.

Tuesday will be better. Won't it?

OMG - Wretched, Horrible Little Monsters!

So it's been one of those drudgery days. Fighting those little battles everybody faces every day. Trying to keep the house tidy, all those rotten niggling little chores we never really want to do and only do because we need to.

I'm finally calming down after having my daughter tell me that Z needs my phone number because I'm watching her tomorrow. I call Z's dad an find out that I am indeed watching her tomorrow. I asked, AGAIN, if he could give me more notice in future. This really torque's my chain because the last time I watched her I found out about it when she knocked on my door, barged in my house and TOLD me "My dad said for me to come here, he's going to be late tonight." (Hmmm, should her dad have told ME? Poor girl is a latch key kid. So what am I to do? I can't punish her because her dad hasn't got any sense. So anyway I'm just getting my feathers unruffled from that and decide that I need some ME time at the computer.

At some point DH says he's heading out to the grocery store and I try to call Pixie to see if she wants anything not on the list. Phone call drops straight into voice mail. GRRRR! Her battery is dead. Hobble out there track her down and get her to come back to the house so we can plug in her phone. AND do the hand off between her phone to going back to the walkie talkies for now.

So the girl is playing, the hubby is out getting groceries, IncrediMail just flipped out on me so I was waiting for a download to finish so I could restart and then prepare to tilt at windmills (aka: try to get my computer to play nice with me)...

The walkie talkie crackles to life, I hear static, wind, what sounds like crying, screaming and I'm on my feet trying to make out the words as I'm heading for the back door. I think I hear "hurting" "friend" and "Help". I'm trotting the length of the house now asking her "say again, you're breaking up". I'm at the gate when she speaks again. crackle, snap, static "they're hurting" swoosh, static "my" crackle, feedback, crackle "HELP" as I'm opening the back gate looking out to see which way to run. I spy Pixie at the base of a tree with another playmate as I'm heading for the road I continue my scan further afield in the field and see a clutch of boys bent over something on the ground. I boom "HEY!!!" in my megaphone voice in their direction. A bunch of heads pop up to see where the voice of God is coming from "KNOCK IT OFF!!!" I bellow as I cross the road (not trotting now as I see my girl is safe, as are all the other children I can see). Suddenly boys jump up and start running fast an furious scattering to the winds, one or two have not yet made it to their feet. I see the girl on the ground. "LET GO OF HER, GET AWAY FROM HER!" Now I AM running, dodging around the bike cop as I'm barreling into the field [bike cop continues going the other way). "YOU GET AWAY FROM THAT GIRL!" I roared. The rest of the boys scatter. I see little girl sobbing, stagger to her feet, clutching the back of her head, and coughing. I reached her (it seemed to take forever) and ask if she's okay and what happened. That tear stained little face looked up and me and said "They pushed me down, they were choking me." I scoop her up in my arms, Pixie and the other girls are coming up now. Pixie run and get my phone. I've never seen my baby run that fast in her life. I've got swarms of kids now telling me "I didn't do nuthing", and all trying to tell me what happened all at once. Pixie is back with the phone as I'm trying to get the girl away from the crowd, shield her from the wind which was bitter cold. I'm holding and rocking her and dialing the phone to call Security Forces.

After giving as much information as I can to the dispatch I ask the girl to show me where she lives, because now the police / security forces are on the way and they need to talk to her, but I gave them my address so she needs to go back with me. We collect up the mom and and now have a huge parade of kids, sobbing girls trying to say what happened, boys trying to tell who did what and which way they went.... What a Mess!

The cops show up, the ambulance shows up (stabbing? the driver calls out..No, no blood here I called back as Security Forces tell them where they need to go. He comes back and tells me there is a domestic incident up the street with a stabbing victim - OMG Is there something in the air today????? Another ambulance shows up as we're determining which additional children have been hurt. Another girl was hit with a stick by one of the boys who had fled, and a very young boy (5 or 6?) had been punched by these little thugs. The 6 year old was trying to help his cousin, the girl being choked. My daughter and two other girls had also been menaced by two boys wielding chair legs as weapons one of which contained nails poking out of it. I hear one of the other boys telling the officer that one of the boys involved in the assault was just seen leaving the area in a vehicle driven by his mother! The boys who did this are 10 or 11ish.

Get everybody into my house so the victims can be assessed by the Paramedics and the police can start getting statements and giving instructions.

DANG! TOO MUCH CHAOS.

So finally all of the victims are loaded into the ambulance and taken to the ER, and all of the witnesses load into their vehicles and head off to the Cop Shop to make their "official" statements.

Pixie and I got home 8ish. Had a quick dinner, cleaned up Pixies room enough to get an air mattress in there for Z and then get her bed made up. Get back out to the Living Room see that it's 10 and tell the girls to get ready for bed and then GO to bed.

Then I turn my attention to the kitchen which hubby destroyed preparing dinner...Got that cleaned up. Realized I had never rebooted my computer...come over here, run my clean up and a defrag and then reboot.

Tell this story and now I'm ready to fall out. I've discovered that adrenalin is an amazing chemical. I sprinted up and down uneven ground and inclines. Walked (in my PJ's how embarrassing) completely to the other side of the housing area and back with this little girl. And I didn't even notice my ankle until about half way through the police report at the station.

I'm noticing it now though!

The irony of this story is that I had just yesterday told DH we needed to take some sort of action on this group of thug-lets as they've been harassing our daughter and several other kids in the neighborhood. Threatening them with "gonna get you", "something bad is gonna happen", etc, etc... all vague enough to be the kind of thing the Security Forces would just blow off.

Tuns out they had actually threatened death. Found that out after we had gotten home from the Cop Shop.

On the edge...

Last night my Pixie decided she needed to climb into bed with Mom & Dad, this is always an option and we are glad to be security for her.
However, for many hours last night I was perched on the very edge of the bed, even my arm dangling on the floor for lack of room in the bed...I had my pillow (and my head) on the nightstand. I'm sure it was comical to look at, but no fun for me. At least Pixie and Daddy had a good night's sleep.
*giggle*
Just wanted to share.

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

Yes Myrtle, I too, am distraught!

I am devastated. I shouldn't be, but I am. Long story short (I hope...brevity is not my strong suite). A letter was shared in on of the yahoo groups. The letter's creator is NOT a member of the group. It was shared by a snagger. The creator did not put her license number on her creation (I do not know if she has a license or not). A little investigation on my part revealed that the image was part of the MPTChristmas "Gift" package. The message with my statement of findings was sent to MPT.
Clearly the person who did this is gunning for my friend (whose yahoo group was shut down without notice because of this...) and for me personally as well. I am now awaiting news as to if my MPT license has been revoked. They (neither the person who undercut us nor MPT) seem to have no desire to seek out the actual creator of the stat, instead choosing to make an example of my friend and I. Apparently our failure to publicly lambaste the girl who shared "a pretty letter she got in another group" is sufficient grounds to charge, try and convict us of "copyright infringement". All without contacting us I might add.
No consideration given for discrete directions given off list. No consideration given to the fact that neither my friend nor I have used any licensed art inappropriately. Everything we've made has the appropriate licenses, and adheres to the requirements of the various agencies and artists. I am afraid that and sure that if one agency revokes my license they all will. As I said, I am devastated. I shouldn't be, but I am. I am lost. I've worked so hard to be compliant. Educated myself on what artist are available from what licensing agencies, spending a fortune on licensed art/images to use, another small fortune on scraps, making sure to credit everything from the Artist, the agency, the scrap kits, the scrap's creators, down to even the fonts used in the headers, tags and bodies of the stationary...just to have somebody flush all of that down the toilet... on a whim.
Why would somebody want to do that?
What horrible thing could both my friend and I have done to the same person at the same time to make her hate us so?
I think I "get" the persons perspective who reported the "violation".
I choose to believe that she thinks she is protecting the artist's interests.
(I protect artist's interests, however, one doesn't need to punish innocents to preserve the artist's interests.).
The road to hell is paved in gold with good intentions.
She has added another paving stone to that golden road.
Me, trying to diffuse a tense situation with humor, may well have cost me more than money.
It may well have cost me my hobby, something I am finally feeling good about, countless dollars to be sure...I suppose I could count them...but then I might lose my mind...
it may cost me my reputation, my ability to continue with this (really the only good thing I've managed to do other than my daughter)...
All the time, the effort, the money...
POOF!
I'm going to go cry now.
More on this travesty here.

New Ortho Doc! Dr. Heinrich Himmler!!!

UGH! They had only a couple of wheelchairs when we got to the hospital so I decided to be considerate and crutch/walk it. Made it up to Orthopaedica, they sent me to X-Ray a long way away from ortho...
I've always thought they were a long way from each other not just since I got broken.
Then back to the farthest reaches of X-Ray and back to ortho.
I haven't been so physically drained in a good long time.

Then...got to meet my new Orthopaedic Doctor...
He is the reincarnation of Heinrich Himmler!!!
Gestapo Doc stated that the PT folks needed to push harder,
Literally!
I was reduced to tears and the "nice" doctor reminded me to breath several times while he was twisting my foot around. Stating that THIS is what PT needed to be doing, and so does hubby.
He repeated the process in excruciating detail to make sure that DH knew what to do.
Mind you, hubby has no issues with pain if it's productive.
However after DH fetched me a wheelchair (I wasn't walking anywhere else and we had three more stops before we left the hospital) and we were on our way to the next stop DH commented that he doesn't think this guy is as good a doctor as my last orthopaedic.

Dr. Himmler (no not really his name) reluctantly agreed to give me a small supply of pain pill to get me over the current hump in my progress.
He also said that I can stop wearing the boot and move back to regular shoes.
Stressing that I need to aggressively work on getting the normal foot motion back,
and that the boot is hindering that process.
I agree...It's terribly difficult to walk in the boot.
So I'm on crutches with a regular shoe and he would like me to be using a cane or nothing at all by my next appointment in four weeks.

So I'm happy, hurting, but happy.
PT is up now to three times a week.
It's going to be interesting but hopefully it will be a good thing.
The sooner I am better the sooner life will be back to normal.
